Amazon’s surprising response?to the New York Times?has received?lots of attention in?the tech world this week — coming more than two months after the newspaper’s widely read article about Amazon’s “bruising workplace,” and publicly accusing a former employee of malfeasance in an effort to discredit one of the most attention-grabbing quotes in the story.

Amazon’s headcount dipped for the first time in years, from 566,000 last quarter to 563,100. The company had job cuts at its Seattle headquarters in February.

Among its 80 members, China is the bank's largest shareholder with 27.5 percent of voting rights.

Amazon’s interviews are more about establishing how someone fits in the culture rather than specific credentials, Williams says. However, the company wants “bar-raisers,” or as Williams describes it: “Are the people we are hiring better than 50 percent of the folks we already have?”
